Synopsis
In 1960, Bertie Stevens, desperate to avoid national service and become a great artist flees England for Paris. Immersed in the city’s bohemian scene, his idealism soon collides with reality when his money runs out.
Homeless and penniless, Bertie sells one forged drawing to survive. What begins as necessity becomes an audacious international operation, with his work infiltrating galleries and auction houses across Europe and America.
As his fakes circulate, Bertie’s own attempts to succeed as a legitimate artist falter. FBI agent Cade Porter traces the forgeries back to Bertie and a cat-and-mouse chase unfolds as Bertie flees across America and Europe, adopting new identities to stay one step ahead.
As the authorities close in, Bertie prepares his boldest deception yet: his own death.
