When a schoolteacher enters a church seeking absolution, a fractured web of confessions, interrogations, and conflicting memories reconstructs the final hours before a tragedy that shatters a community.
Synopsis
Stephen Davids is a respected teacher struggling to maintain control of a secret life that is beginning to unravel. As the consequences of his actions close in around him, sixteen-year-old Poppy Peters becomes increasingly consumed by a relationship she believes offers an escape from her circumstances. Elsewhere, eighteen-year-old Vinny Cooper dreams of escaping the limitations of his upbringing, but is soon drawn into the orbit of local criminal Ben Cain, where drugs, violence and the presence of a gun turn a reckless night into something far more dangerous. Following the deaths of two teenagers, detectives attempt to piece together the events that led to a single catastrophic night. Testimony, confession and memory offer competing versions of the truth. Each character becomes both witness and narrator, reshaping the past through guilt, fear and self-preservation. As hidden connections surface between seemingly separate lives, a series of failings, compromises, and misjudgements, drive them towards an irreversible collision course.
